Maffra Secondary College

Maffra Secondary College is a stand alone Year 7-12 rural College with an enrolment of around 750 students. This is small enough to allow positive relationships to be formed, but large enough to provide a wide range of options for students. The school provides a positive learning environment that engages and instils knowledge and values, empowering the school community to strive to be life-long learners.

Maffra's students are encouraged to be actively involved in improving the school environment and to contribute to the local community. The College has a cohesive and professional leadership team with a focus on working collaboratively to develop teaching skills for all teachers that will improve student learning outcomes. The College will maintain a focus on Literacy and Numeracy across all areas. There will be a continued focus in the English and Maths program at Years 7 and 8 with teachers gathering evidence of student work to differentiate learning. This collaborative approach sees teachers working in Professional Learning Teams with teachers from the Network and is supported by Melbourne University. The College continues to offer a breadth of Curriculum at VCE together with VCAL & VET courses. Students are offered guidance and support when choosing their career pathway and this work commences with students in Year 9.

The engagement and wellbeing of Maffra students is sustained by the Wellbeing team who work proactively to deliver programs to improve the physical and mental health of the school's students. The College has an excellent reputation in the area and the local community takes great pride in ‘their school’, its achievements and its environment. Parents and friends participate directly in school activities including Camps, Excursions, the Debutante Ball, Canteen, Library, Working Bees and fundraising activities.
