Lesson Plans

First: View my video to you all here

These lesson plans have been designed to give you a better understanding of the country, environment and the bats from where I will be working for 14 days. Hopefully you will learn a lot about bats and Malaysia while I am away, then I can show you heaps of other cool stuff when I get back!

Remember to check this website each day to look at my 'Daily Highlights', and photos will be updated to the 'Photo Gallery' daily.

If you have any questions about anything you read or something you see, please ask me a question in the Forum. If I can't answer it, I'll find a scientist who does!

Lesson 1 – What do we already know about Bats? (SOSE)

This lesson will ascertain the prior knowledge of the students, before moving onto the unit content.

Lesson 2 - Where is Malaysia? (SOSE)

I hope to show you what a culturally diverse country this is, through this lesson. You should be able to find some pretty interesting facts about Malaysia.

Lesson 3 – Roosting Ecology of a Bat (SOSE/ART)

Bats don't just sleep in caves. This lesson should open you eyes regarding where bats can rest during the day.

Lesson 4 – Using sound to communicate (SCIENCE)

Sound waves are interesting to learn about, and they're the primary method of hunting/communication in the majority of bats living in Malaysia.

Lesson 5 – Similarities in Mammal arm bones (SCIENCE)

I hope you find this lesson interesting! Mammals are an amazing group of animals.

Lesson 6 – Nocturnal Animals (SCIENCE)

There are plenty of bats in the world and they don't all look the same! There are over 1,100 of them and they're all different, but why?

Lesson 7 – Research a Bat! (SOSE)

Now you get the opportunity to research a bat of your choice! Display what you've learnt on a nice poster so I can see it when I get back.
