Wallan Secondary College

Wallan Secondary College commenced in 2006 with 121 Year 7 students and has grown to 500 students in 2009. The College will continue to grow by year level until a full 7 to 12 enrolment is reached in 2011.

The College is situated on a green field site in the main street of Wallan, a rapidly growing township approximately 50km north of Melbourne. The construction of the college is a staged development project, with Stage 1 completed in time for the first day of school, 2006. Stage 2 was completed in June 2007. Stage 3, comprising Library/Resource Centre, Gymnasium and Science/Technology Centre, is due for completion in February, 2010.

Wallan Secondary College draws its students from Wallan, Beveridge, Wandong, Kilmore, Upper Plenty, Darraweit and Craigieburn. The College is implementing VELS and the VCE in a new school environment and continuing to develop curriculum to meet the wide range of learning levels, learning styles and learning needs of its students.

Students at Wallan Secondary College experience a wide range of topics in Science throughout their education. In years 7 and 8, there is a strong focus on Science Safety and learning specialised practical skills whilst investigating topics such as Ecosystems, Chemical Reactions, The Changing Earth, Electrical Energy and Science Design. Years 9 and 10 investigate topics that include Light, Atomic Structure, Astronomy, Science of the Road and Control Systems. In 2010 the College has students completing Units 1 & 2 Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology; and Units 3 & 4 Psychology.
