The Insect Army

Bugs, Ants and Whole Lot More.

Go into your backyard and take a look around. Select an area of one metre by one metre square. Peg out this area using some string and tent pegs. Now get down on your hands and knees and take a really close look to see who lives right under your feet. Hey I know what you look like but who are you? Gently capture some of the inhabitants and have a look at them under your magnifying glass.

Trapping and Surveying

Dig a shalllow hole in your garden. Place a small jar or container in the hole and place some sugar or honey in the bottom of the container. Leave your trap overnight and then see which species of insect, bug or other visitor you have attracted. Are these microbeasties worried about carbon emissions? If the climate changes how does life change for the ants and bugs in your backyard?
