Bannockburn Primary School

Bannockburn Primary School services a growing community located slightly north-west of Geelong city centre. Continued growth in student numbers as Bannockburn expands and the Geelong Ring Road brings the two major centres of Melbourne and Geelong closer to the township, means Bannockburn Primary must look at building a sense of community for a large number of new families.

The school boasts a talented and professional staff. An influx of graduate teachers over the last few years has ensured the school has developed strong Professional Learning Teams and an accredited Performance and Development culture.

Bannockburn Primary School is building a strong curriculum based on the VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards), with a major focus on Literacy and Numeracy, and a commitment to extra-curricular activities to extend, engage and challenge all children.

The curriculum is supported by a commitment to embedding ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) meaningfully into all teaching and learning with a focus on students using ICT to communicate understanding and enjoyment of their learning. ICT is also used for planning and instruction by staff. The continued implementation of digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning will be a focus.

Bannockburn Primary School has always had a strong focus on Environmental education. In recent years we have taken part in program such as

  • Corangamites action in the catchments which involves water monitoring of local waterways.
  • SWEP – Schools Water Efficency Project.

Not only do these project serve to make the school more sustainable it provides great opportunities for powerful learning for the students. The school also has worm farms vegetable gardens and a strong recycling program which is all coordinated by a student committee.
